Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin announced that his country will allocate approximately $134 million to Ukraine, with the funds directed towards non-lethal military assistance and support for the energy system.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that we will provide $107 million for non-lethal military assistance and an additional $26 million to help Ukraine maintain its energy system,” Martin said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Dublin on December 2.

Martin added that Ireland has already provided Ukraine with over $365 million, including $186 million in humanitarian aid and $177 million in non-lethal military assistance.

Additionally, Irish Prime Minister expressed that his country is prepared to take part in monitoring ceasefires and engage in peacekeeping activities both in Ukraine and within the European Union.

He outlined Ireland's continued support for Ukraine if a peaceful resolution is achieved. Martin emphasized that Ireland would be ready to monitor any ceasefire or certain aspects of peace.

“We have extensive experience in Lebanon and Africa in peace monitoring and peacekeeping operations. And of course, we all want the war to end. Ireland is definitely open to contributing to peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine and Europe,” Martin affirmed.

In his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the war must be concluded in a manner that ensures Russia cannot launch a third invasion of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy explained that any decisions about ending the war should be made justly, transparently, and with Ukraine’s interests at the forefront.

“We must end this war in such a way that, a year from now, Russia doesn’t come again with a third invasion in this decade. This could happen because that was their primary goal. They failed to occupy our country, but their objectives may still be in play. We need strong protection,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Zelenskyy pointed out that Ukraine will not accept "decisions being made behind its back" and will not agree to solutions made without its involvement. He reaffirmed his readiness to make decisions regarding the future of the Ukrainian people.

The President also emphasized the importance of security guarantees, stating that it is critical for Ukrainians to not only receive formal guarantees but also to fully understand what exactly the allies are promising and how these assurances will be fulfilled.

“This is not an experiment on people; these are real people, our citizens, who have paid too high a price for freedom,” Zelenskyy underlined.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned the United States that Russia should not view any potential results of ongoing peace talks as a reward for its invasion, as Donald Trump’s envoy prepared to present an updated proposal in Moscow.
