Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that historical experience shows there can be no agreements with Russia, as Moscow is driven only by lies and a desire to crush its opponents, according to RBC-Ukraine on December 2.

Nawrocki delivered his remarks at a ceremony marking Cadet Officers’ Day on the 195th anniversary of the outbreak of the November Uprising in Warsaw.

In a passage later published on X by presidential chancellery head Zbigniew Bogucki, Nawrocki said: “Historical events are also a lesson for contemporary Poland and Poles: with the Russians, in the 19th century, in the 20th century and in the 21st century, there are no agreements. There is only lies, a desire to take away their spirit and a desire to destroy. This is a lesson we must all learn, deeply believing in Polish officer cadets, officers and generals.”

RBC-Ukraine noted that the Polish president has repeatedly taken a tough line toward Moscow, including canceling a planned meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after Orban’s visit to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and publicly stating during a visit to Prague that he is waiting to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Warsaw.

Nawrocki has also criticized a proposed US peace plan for the war in Ukraine, saying any initiative to end Russia’s aggression must first be approved by Kyiv, must not reward the aggressor and must recognize that Russia is a state that does not honor agreements or keep its word.

Earlier, it was reported that during a visit to Helsinki, Polish President Karol Nawrocki warned together with Finland’s president that Vladimir Putin could threaten countries beyond Ukraine and emphasized that they do not trust the Russian leader.
