Italian PM Urges Trump to Apply Israel-Iran Resolve to Ukraine and Gaza Ceasefires

At a press briefing following the NATO summit in The Hague on June 25, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told US President Donald Trump that the determination displayed in securing a ceasefire in the Israel-Iran war must likewise be applied to achieving ceasefires in Ukraine and in Gaza, as was reported by ANSA.

“I told President Donald Trump and said at the summit that the same determination used on the war between Israel and Iran must also be used for two other ceasefires — for Ukraine and for Gaza,” she told reporters.

“Our goal is an agreement,” she added. “And the same determination is needed to reach two other ceasefires: in Ukraine, where Russia has no intention of moving forward … and in Gaza, where the situation is unsustainable”.

At the close of the two-day summit, member nations pledged to increase defense spending to 5 percent of GDP by 2035, underscoring the Alliance’s broader resolve to counter shared threats. Meloni framed her appeal for dual ceasefires as part of these wider security commitments, arguing that political unity must translate into concrete diplomatic outcomes.

Sources told Ukrinform that Meloni and Trump held a lengthy conversation while seated next to each other at a leaders’ dinner hosted at the Dutch king’s residence in The Hague, with the Italian Prime Minister using the informal setting to press her case directly.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Trump for approximately 50 minutes to discuss steps to end the war in Ukraine, strengthen civilian protections and deepen bilateral cooperation. Zelenskyy described the talks as “long and substantive,” while Trump signaled he would bring their dialogue to the Russian leader.
