US Vice President Kamala Harris promised that, if successful in the upcoming presidential election, she would continue to back Ukraine and NATO.

She made this commitment during a speech at the Democratic Party Congress, where she recalled a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy just days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Five days before Russia attacked Ukraine, I met with President Zelenskyy to warn him of Russia’s plans. I helped mobilize more than 50 countries worldwide to defend against Putin’s aggression, and as president, I will stand firmly with Ukraine and our NATO allies,” Harris declared.

The US presidential election, set for November 5, 2024, will mark the nation’s 60th, determining its 47th president.

Harris, selected by the Democratic Party to run in this year’s presidential election, has announced her choice for vice presidential candidate — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. While in Congress, he was a member of the Armed Services Committee as well as the Committee on Veterans Affairs. Prior to entering politics, Walz served in the Army National Guard and was a high school teacher and football coach.

Harris has consistently supported Ukraine against Russian aggression and is likely to uphold Biden’s policies. In June, she attended the Summit on Peace for Ukraine instead of Joe Biden, holding her sixth meeting with Zelenskyy, reiterating the US’s commitment to supporting Kyiv, and announcing over $1.5 billion in US aid through USAID and the State Department.
