Khartiia Brigade Becomes First Ukrainian National Guard Unit Equipped With US Bradleys

The 13th Brigade of Operational Assignment of the National Guard of Ukraine, known as the Khartia Brigade, has been equipped with M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, becoming the first formation of the National Guard to receive them, according to Military Land on September 25.
It was reported on September 17 that Khartiia personnel had begun training on the vehicles. “Recently, the world’s best Bradley infantry fighting vehicles entered service with the NGU Khartia Brigade,” the segment stated, showing footage of crews preparing to operate the platform.
The Bradley is armed with a 25mm M242 Bushmaster cannon, TOW anti-tank missiles, and a 7.62mm machine gun. Ukrainian soldiers have previously credited the vehicle’s armor and firepower in frontline operations. The recent introduction marks the first time the National Guard has deployed the platform, with Khartiia Brigade crews now undergoing active training.

Until now, Bradleys had only been in service with units of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, including the 25th Airmobile Brigade, 33rd Assault Regiment, 47th Mechanized Brigade, 82nd and 95th Air Assault Brigades, 100th and 153rd Mechanized Brigades, the 225th and 425th Assault Regiments, and the 199th Training Center.
The United States continues to support the maintenance of Ukraine’s Bradley fleet.
On July 23, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced: “The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine of Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul Capability and related equipment for an estimated cost of $150 million.”
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine upgraded US-supplied Bradley IFVs with a “Tower 1” protection system to better survive Russian drone attacks.
