Overnight and in the morning on September 5, Russia attacked Ukraine with “Shahed” drones, with almost all regions under threat.

The drone assault started on Wednesday evening and continued throughout the night. Nearly all southern, northern, eastern, central, and some western regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, were at risk of air strikes.

Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down 60 of 78 attack drones, operating across 12 regions of Ukraine.

Air raid alerts in Kyiv lasted for over nine hours. All drones attempting to attack the capital were neutralized, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA). Explosions were heard in the city around 6.40 a.m. local time, no casualties or damage reported.

There was significant disruption with public transportation due to the prolonged alert in Kyiv, with kilometers-long queues in subway and bus stations.

Additionally, there are reports of widespread mining of educational institutions in Kyiv, children and teachers have been evacuated from at least 6 schools, and special services are at work.

Meanwhile, during the night and morning of September 5, Russian forces shelled the Sumy region and Dnipropetrovsk region.

In Sumy, 10 communities were hit, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration. 37 explosions were recorded, but there is no information about casualties or damage yet.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, the Nikopol district was hit by Grad rockets, heavy artillery, and Shahed drone attacks, reported Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration head Serhii Lysak. There were no reported casualties or injuries.
