Latvia has donated 612 vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine, with an estimated total value of €2.25 million, according to Delfi, citing the Latvian State Revenue Service.

This initiative was made possible by amendments to the Latvian Law on Supporting the Civilian Population of Ukraine, approved by the Latvian Parliament on February 16, 2023.

The new legislation allows the government to transfer vehicles that have become state property to Ukraine.

The donated vehicles include those seized from drivers caught under the influence of alcohol. Since the amendments came into effect, the Latvian government has made multiple decisions to transfer these confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.

According to Delfi, some of the vehicles will be allocated to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, including military units, while others will be used for civilian purposes to address humanitarian needs.

Previously, it was reported that Latvia will continue to allocate 0.25% of its GDP to aid Ukraine. This has already been included in the country’s budget for 2025-2026.
