Lavrov: Trump Acting Under “Considerable Pressure” from EU, NATO on Russia Ceasefire

On July 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is trying to understand the motivations behind US President Donald Trump’s recent call for a 50-day ceasefire ultimatum directed at Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at a press conference following a Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Beijing, Lavrov remarked:
“We’ve seen different timeframes before—24 hours, 100 days. We’re genuinely trying to understand what is driving the President of the United States.”

Lavrov implied that the European Union and NATO may be influencing Trump’s position.
“It’s clear he is under considerable pressure from the EU and current NATO leadership, who continue to back Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s requests for modern, including offensive, weapons,” he said.
The Russian foreign minister also criticized the EU’s upcoming 18th package of sanctions and claimed that Brussels is attempting to draw the US further into an economic standoff, particularly in light of Trump’s warnings about imposing 100% tariffs on Russia and countries trading with it.
Previously, it was reported that US President Donald Trump has urged Ukraine not to target Moscow with long-range weapons, while reaffirming his push for a negotiated end to the ongoing war with Russia.
