Lithuania and Sweden Commit €22 Million for Ukrainian Demining Efforts
The member countries of the Demining Capability Coalition have agreed on purchases in the amount of €22 million to support the needs of the State Transport Special Service and the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Lithuania will be allocating €15 million and Sweden €7 million.
The decision to purchase pickup trucks and trucks for Ukraine was made at a meeting of Coalition partners held in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The participants discussed the list of purchases for the current humanitarian and combat demining, as well as the project of the Roadmap for the development of the capabilities of the demining units of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces for the period until 2034.
The coalition was created in July 2023 under the chairmanship of Lithuania and Iceland to help clear Ukrainian territory of mines left by Russian troops.
Ukraine is reported to be one of the most heavily mined countries in the world, with nearly a quarter of its land contaminated by mines and other remnants of war.
