1:00 p.m. President Donald Trump is set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders at the White House today as his administration advances efforts to mediate a peace agreement in the war between Russia and Ukraine, now entering its fourth year. Heads of government from allied nations began arriving around midday.
The delegations include United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
Earlier, Zelenskyy held a joint meeting with Stubb, Starmer, Meloni, von der Leyen, and Rutte. This session preceded broader discussions involving Trump and other leaders.
The Ukrainian President also met with General Keith Kellogg, expressing gratitude for his engagement with Ukraine’s team during preparations for the Washington peace talks. “General Kellogg, thank you for the meeting and for the joint work with our team,” Zelenskyy said in an official statement on August 18.
