Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to General Keith Kellogg for his engagement with Ukraine’s team during preparations for Washington peace talks. “General Kellogg, thank you for the meeting and for the joint work with our team,” Zelenskyy said in an official statement on August 18.

He noted that President Donald Trump had invited Ukraine and several European countries to Washington for the first meeting in this format. Zelenskyy stressed that peace must apply across the continent, not selectively.

“When we are talking about peace for someone in Europe, it means peace for everyone in Europe. We are ready to continue working as productively as possible to end the war and reliably guarantee security,” he added.

The Ukrainian president said discussions focused on battlefield developments and collective diplomatic efforts with Europe and the United States.

“Russia can be forced into peace only by strength, and President Trump has such strength. We must do everything right so that peace is real,” he noted.

Zelenskyy also reported that overnight Russian strikes killed two children and injured dozens while residents were asleep. “People were simply sleeping when the Russian army attacked the cities,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy met with US special envoy Keith Kellogg to discuss weapons supplies, strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, procurement of American arms, joint defense production, and localizing manufacturing efforts.
