On July 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Rome with US Special Envoy for Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, head of the American delegation to the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

During the meeting, the two discussed US military support, including the supply of weapons and enhanced air defense capabilities—a growing priority for Ukraine amid continued Russian attacks.

“We discussed weapons supply and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense—one of our top priorities amid the growing number of Russian attacks,” Zelenskyy said in a statement.

The conversation also focused on broader defense cooperation, including the procurement of American weapons, joint defense production, and efforts to localize manufacturing in Ukraine.

In addition, the leaders addressed the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia’s energy sector.

Zelenskyy highlighted the need for tougher restrictions and called for secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian oil. He also welcomed a bipartisan legislative initiative in the US Congress aimed at increasing sanctions pressure.

“We hope to see progress on the bill introduced by Senators Graham and Blumenthal. This is something that could truly force Russia to think more seriously about peace,” Zelenskyy noted.

President Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to the United States for its continued support, thanking both political parties, the American people, and President Donald Trump.

Previously, it was reported that US Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham have stated that they have already introduced a bill proposing new sanctions on Russia, including a 500% tariff on imported goods from countries that purchase Russian energy resources.
