Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko announced that several dozen nuclear warheads have already been delivered to the country, and discussions are underway regarding the deployment of Russia’s ‘Oreshnik’ missile system in Belarus.

This was reported by the Belarusian state-owned news agency Belta, citing Lukashenko’s statement during a working visit to the city of Barysaw in the Minsk region.

"I have brought nuclear warheads here—several dozen of them. Many are saying, 'Oh, it’s a joke, nothing was brought in.' But they were brought in. And if they [opponents] are calling it a joke, it means they missed it. They didn’t even notice how we transported them here," Lukashenko stated.

Lukashenko acknowledged that the use of nuclear weapons carries a tremendous responsibility, noting that no major power has dared to deploy them again since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. However, he stated that if enemy forces were to cross Belarus’s borders, Minsk would be prepared to respond with the appropriate weaponry.

“I have warned all our enemies, 'friends,' and rivals: if you so much as cross our state border, the response will be immediate. I won’t hesitate—whether it’s nuclear weapons or something else," the president declared,“ he added.

Lukashenko stated that he had discussed the matter with Vladimir Putin. He clarified that he is talking about the use of tactical nuclear weapons, not strategic ones. According to the Belarusian leader, such weapons could be five times more powerful than Russia’s "Oreshnik" missile system.

On December 6, Putin and Lukashenko signed a mutual security guarantee agreement between their countries. Putin stated that the agreement encompasses the use of all available forces, including Russian tactical nuclear weapons stationed in Belarus, to safeguard the defense of both nations.
