Lukashenko Urges "Military Mobilization" to Shield Belarus Economy From Global Crisis

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has called for a “military mobilization” to sustain the national economy amid growing global instability. He made the statement during a meeting with heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions, as reported by state news agency BELTA on July 31.
“This and the coming year will be very difficult and tense. Therefore, I want to warn everyone present, especially officials responsible for the economy: don’t take it personally, but the pressure and expectations will only increase,” Lukashenko said.
He stressed that mobilization is necessary not only in times of war, but also in peacetime, which he described as “very difficult” under current global conditions. The president urged the use of strict and, at times, unconventional methods to stabilize the situation.
“We must keep the economy afloat. This is not easy, given the turmoil in international markets and the global economy,” he noted.

Lukashenko also reminded that Belarus has an open economy, with more than half of its production destined for export. “So only forward—no excuses. If there are no results, sorry, you're out,” he stated.
According to The Moscow Times, Lukashenko expects 2025 and 2026 to be particularly challenging for Belarus and emphasized that the economy remains the foundation for the country’s sustainable development and national well-being.
Lukashenko also reminded that Belarus has an open economy, with more than half of its production destined for export. “So only forward—no excuses. If there are no results, sorry, you're out,” he stated. More recent estimates place the export share to Russia at 60–65 % of Belarusian exports, reflecting continued economic dependency
Earlier, it was reported that Belarus is ramping up its defense manufacturing sector to support Russia’s increasing demand for military components.
The expansion covers the production of drones, dual-use electronics, and targeting systems—technologies that have become strategically vital for Russia in the face of international sanctions and disrupted supply chains.
