French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have urged the European Union to pursue stronger, more coordinated cooperation following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

Both leaders extended their congratulations to Trump on his victory. Macron expressed his readiness to collaborate “as we did for four years” to achieve “more peace and prosperity.”

French government spokesperson, Maud Bregeon, reported that Macron not only congratulated Trump but also reached out to Chancellor Scholz to discuss the upcoming changes.

According to Bregeon, Macron emphasized that Europeans must take collective responsibility, urging that their approach should not be “every man for himself” or centered on isolated bilateral relationships but should instead focus on a unified European strategy.

Scholz added, “The EU must now stand particularly close - and act united.” He noted his close cooperation with EU heads of state and government, highlighting an upcoming meeting in Budapest on November 7.

“Germany and the US share a partnership and friendship that has grown over decades. We believe that we are better off together. We can achieve much more working together than against each other,” Scholz wrote.

On November 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with President-elect Trump, offering his congratulations on what he called a “historic and decisive victory.”
