Macron Calls Biden’s Approval of Strikes on Russia a "Good Decision"
French President Emmanuel Macron praised US President Joe Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range American missiles for strikes inside Russia, calling it "a good decision" on November 18.
Macron emphasized that the move was a response to Russia’s escalation of the war, specifically its deployment of North Korean troops.
"Russia is the only power that made an escalatory decision ... it's really this break that led to the US decision," Macron said, according to Politico on November 19.
Earlier, France’s Minister for European Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, has stated that allowing Ukraine to strike military targets in Russia using French long-range missiles remains a viable option, with no changes to the current stance.
The EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, confirmed on November 18 that the Biden administration had authorized the use of US weapons for strikes up to 300 kilometers (190 miles) inside Russian territory.
On November 17, it was reported that the Biden administration had lifted restrictions on Ukraine using US-supplied weapons for deep strikes into Russian territory. According to officials, these weapons are expected to target Russian and North Korean forces, bolstering the defense of Ukrainian troops in Russia’s western Kursk region.
