Starmer and Macron Push Biden to Approve Storm Shadow Missiles for Ukraine Strikes in Russia Before Trump’s Inauguration
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to discuss Ukraine’s authorization of Storm Shadow use on Russian soil as well as bolstering military support for Ukraine, aiming to counter anticipated shifts in US policy under Donald Trump, reported The Telegraph on November 10.
The British and French leaders will meet in Paris to explore ways to sustain Western support for Ukraine amid fears that Trump, who won last week’s US election, may curtail US aid to Kyiv.
The talks are also expected to focus on whether President Joe Biden could be convinced to authorize Ukraine’s use of UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles in strikes deep within Russian territory—a long-standing request from Kyiv.
According to The Telegraph’s sources in London, there is hope Biden will seize this opportunity to cement his foreign policy legacy by allowing Ukraine greater latitude in its defense efforts.
The meeting will coincide with Sir Keir’s attendance at the Paris Armistice Day ceremony, marking the first time a UK leader has participated in the event since Winston Churchill in 1944.
Starmer’s presence highlights the strong unity between the UK and France in supporting Ukraine, especially considering possible policy changes from Washington.
Trump had pledged during his campaign to bring the Ukraine war to an end “in a day”, raising fears he might pressure Ukraine to concede territory to Russia as part of a settlement.
Earlier, Trump acknowledged that he couldn’t push Ukraine into making concessions to Putin without securing something in return.
