Borrell: No EU Consensus on Conducting Military Training in Ukraine
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell confirmed that there is no consensus among EU countries to relocate military training for Ukrainian soldiers onto Ukrainian soil.
“Yes, I still don’t have a consensus on fulfilling this request,” Borrell stated during his final visit to Kyiv, adding that this hasn’t impacted the EU’s ongoing mission to prepare Ukrainian forces near the border.
The EU training mission has so far trained 60,000 Ukrainian troops, with a goal to reach 75,000 by the weekend. “We train Ukrainian soldiers as close as possible to the Ukrainian border,” Borrell said, emphasizing the importance of providing well-prepared soldiers for the front lines.
In response to questions on North Korea’s reported military support for Russia, Borrell described it as “one of the most troubling developments” and indicated the EU would pursue diplomatic measures regarding Pyongyang’s involvement.
