US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on April 4 that President Trump would not “fall into the trap of endless negotiations,” and it would soon be clear if Russia was serious about peace.
“We will not continue this forever. We have a certain time when we will wait. We want to see during this time whether they are ready for peace or not. And the time is coming,” Rubio told journalists on Friday after a NATO meeting in Brussels.
“We will know soon enough, in a matter of weeks, not months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not.”
Rubio stated that Kyiv had “demonstrated a willingness” to enter into a full ceasefire and pave the way for negotiations.
“The Russians and Putin must decide if they are truly serious about peace,” he added.
During the same meeting the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany said that Russia has no interest in a genuine ceasefire in Ukraine and is merely stalling for time.
