US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured that any potential concessions from Washington would not violate Ukraine’s “red lines” or undermine Europe’s interests, European Union foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, confirmed.
According to RBC-Ukraine on April 4 citing Tagesschau, Kallas was asked by journalists ahead of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting whether Rubio had provided assurances that the US would not make concessions against Ukraine’s interests.
Kallas affirmed the assurance, stating, “It was noted that nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, and of course Ukraine and Europe have to agree on what is being discussed, because all this is happening in Europe.”
Kallas made this statement amid a visit to Washington by Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, who held meetings with US officials, including Steve Witkoff, special representative for the Middle East and a participant in negotiations concerning Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The NATO foreign ministers' meeting, set for April 3-4 in Brussels, marks the first face-to-face meeting of foreign ministers since Trump’s return to the White House.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda indicated that Lithuania is preparing for the possibility of a Russian offensive against NATO countries by 2030.
