French President Emmanuel Macron, in a speech broadcast from the Élysée on March 5, stated that “peace cannot come at any price.”
Macron rejected the idea of “remaining a spectator” in the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“Peace cannot come at any price. Peace cannot be the capitulation of Ukraine, it cannot be its collapse or a ceasefire that would be too fragile,” Macron stated, referring to Russia’s disregard for the Minsk agreements.
Macron also said, “Today, we can no longer trust Russia’s word,” and reaffirmed Ukraine’s right to peace and security, aligning it with Europe’s security interests.
As U.S. military aid to Kyiv is suspended, European leaders are working to reduce dependence on U.S. defense support. This issue will be addressed at an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday.
