Ukraine’s supply of Patriot missiles could be depleted within weeks following U.S. cut of military aid, CNN reported on March 5, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to the report, Ukraine has been heavily relying on Patriot air defense systems to counter Russian missile and drone attacks, particularly against critical infrastructure and military targets. However, with no immediate resupply confirmed, Ukrainian air defense capabilities may soon face serious challenges.

Officials warn that if the missile shortage is not addressed, Ukraine could struggle to protect key cities and military positions from Russia’s continued aerial assaults. The depletion of Patriot stockpiles could further expose Ukrainian forces to long-range strikes at a time when frontline positions remain heavily contested.

“Ukrainian soldiers told CNN that their biggest immediate worry is not the impact of the cuts on the frontlines, but the lack of Patriot missiles protecting their families and loved ones across Ukrainian cities,” CNN wrote.

The publication notes that Ukraine has been in urgent talks with Western allies to secure additional missile shipments. However, ongoing debates in Washington over further military aid to Ukraine have slowed the decision-making process.

“This is the only system capable of dealing with Russian ballistic missiles. The risk relates to the provision of Patriots, both in terms of repairs, maintenance and ammunition to protect Ukraine from ballistic missiles,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on March 4.

If no new supplies are delivered in time, Ukraine may need to adjust its air defense strategy, relying on alternative systems and rationing existing stocks to maintain defensive coverage.

Earlier, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed that the United States has temporarily halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
