White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz stated that the United States is currently discussing the location and date for negotiations with Ukraine, according to Reuters on March 5.
“We’re already talking about confidence-building measures that we’ll then take to the Russians and test that side,” he said.
Waltz also stated that U.S. President Donald Trump may reinstate aid to Ukraine if peace talks are initiated and “concrete confidence-building measures” are implemented.
He noted that the U.S. is working with Ukraine, Russia, and European allies to assess their respective positions and facilitate a potential peace agreement.
Earlier, Waltz stated, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference near Washington on February 28, that “Under Trump, this war will end. And it will end soon. He is the president of peace.”
On March 5, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed that the United States has temporarily halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine. This intelligence-sharing suspension follows the U.S. decision to temporarily pause its military aid to Ukraine.
“This is a temporary pause,” U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said on March 4 in response to questions about the U.S. administration’s decision to halt military assistance to Ukraine.
