Polish President Andrzej Duda stated on January 23, that Russian leader Vladimir Putin should be compelled to seek negotiations with Ukraine and its allies according to broadcaster RMF24.

Speaking at the Ukrainian Breakfast discussion in Davos, at the World Economic Forum, Duda stressed that not all potential resolutions to the war are in the best interests of Ukraine, Poland, Eastern Europe, or the European Union.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring that any plan guarantees Ukraine’s sovereignty and security while compelling Russia to respect international law.

“I want Vladimir Putin to beg us, to beg Ukraine, to beg allies of Ukraine to sit at the table and to talk,” he said.

Duda underscored the long-standing influence of Russia over nations formerly behind the Iron Curtain, stressing the need to address the broader implications of the war. He argued that efforts should not focus on persuading Putin to negotiate but on holding him accountable for initiating dialogue.

Duda described the ongoing war as a global issue rather than a regional one, stating that it requires a coordinated international response.

US President Donald Trump urged Russia to end its war in Ukraine in a January 22 Truth Social post, warning of broad sanctions and tariffs on Russian exports if aggression continues.
