In the early hours of August 18, Russian forces launched a large-scale Shahed drone strike on the SOCAR oil depot in Ukraine’s Odesa region, Azerbaijan’s Minval media reported.

A series of direct hits ignited a fire that damaged every storage tank, the pumping station, control and weighing facilities, technical buildings, and destroyed the perimeter fence. The depot, with a capacity of over 16,000 cubic meters, has been rendered inoperable.

Emergency crews are working to restore operations, while experts assess the scale of the damage.

This marks the second large-scale attack on the facility this month. On August 8, about ten drones targeted the same oil depot, causing partial destruction. A criminal investigation into that strike has already been launched.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X on August 18 that Moscow is deliberately carrying out such attacks to harm Azerbaijan’s interests .

“This once again demonstrates the importance of the new level of cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, as well as the need for appropriate diplomatic and legal responses to such attacks,” he emphasized.

Earlier, it was reported that at least seven people, including a toddler and a teenager, were killed and more than three dozen injured in Kharkiv after a Russian overnight strike of missiles and drones ripped through residential areas in the city’s Industrialny district.
