Moldova and Poland Move to Strengthen Critical Infrastructure Protection in New Defense Agreement

Moldova and Poland are preparing a new defense cooperation agreement as the two countries seek to deepen coordination against modern security threats, according to NewsMaker on January 26.
Speaking alongside Moldovan President Maia Sandu during her official visit to Warsaw, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said, “Moldova is proof of how to break free from the Russian sphere of influence,” adding that Moldova “can count on our support in this process.”

“I believe that Moldova is becoming– right before our very eyes – an example to many countries around the world of how to break free from Russia’s sphere of influence,” he said, while also stating that Poland supports Moldova’s bid to join the European Union.
Sandu said Moldova and Poland were working to “update and deepen” their bilateral defense cooperation, with the agreement to cover resilience, countering hybrid threats, and protecting critical infrastructure.

She also urged support for EU enlargement and said, “In such times, solidarity is not just a slogan. It is a test of who we really are,” adding that Moldova and Poland were “firmly united in supporting Ukraine,” and that “Ukraine’s resistance keeps Russia away from our borders and away from yours.”
Earlier, it was reported that European leaders, including Poland’s prime minister, planned a joint visit to Moldova to signal support for its security, sovereignty, and European path.
