Moldova Issues Formal Protest to Russia Over Election Interference and Drone Incursions
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova has issued a formal protest to Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozherov, denouncing both alleged interference by Russia in Moldova’s elections and the recent incursions of two Russian drones into Moldovan airspace.
According to a statement by Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the note delivered to Ambassador Ozherov emphasized Moldova’s concerns over “illegal and deliberate interference by Russia aimed at distorting the results of the presidential elections and the national constitutional referendum, thereby undermining and delegitimizing Moldova’s democratic processes.”
Moldova also condemned the November 10 airspace violation, during which two Russian drones were reportedly identified within Moldovan territory. The ministry clarified that local authorities had confirmed the drones originated from Russia. Officials warned that such incidents pose a serious risk to civilian safety and described them as a hostile act from Moscow.
The ministry’s statement reiterated that Moldova has previously called on Russia to halt any actions that could be perceived as interference in Moldova’s internal matters. The ministry urged Russia to refrain from further engagement in Moldovan domestic affairs.
