Moldovan Ambassador Lilian Dariy was summoned by Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he received a "firm protest" regarding what Russia claims are unfriendly and discriminatory actions by Chisinau against Russian observers during Moldova’s elections.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release on its official website that Moldovan authorities “unjustifiably denied” accreditation to five Russian international observers from the OSCE ODIHR  mission ahead of the first round of voting and the constitutional referendum on EU accession on October 20. Additionally, three Russian mission members were refused entry at Chisinau airport before the second round on November 3.

“These actions represent a blatant violation of Chisinau’s international commitments,” said the Russian MFA, noting that they have filed a formal complaint with the OSCE ODIHR leadership over Moldova’s conduct.

In response, Moldovan government spokesperson Daniel Vodă urged Russian authorities to "take a look in the mirror."

“For years, Russia has actively interfered in Moldova, channeling resources toward disinformation and manipulating public opinion. Such statements are hypocritical and a clear attempt to destabilize democracy in our country in full view of the world,” Vodă said.

On October 20, Moldova held presidential elections and a referendum on joining the European Union, with incumbent President Maia Sandu securing a second term. The referendum passed with 50.4% of voters supporting the EU amendment and 49.6% opposing it.
