Moldovan President Maia Sandu Travels to Kyiv to Meet President Zelenskyy
Moldovan President Maia Sandu traveled to Kyiv on Saturday, January 25, at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Sandu shared a video from her journey, stating that her visit aims to express solidarity with Ukraine. “For nearly three years, Ukrainians have been defending their country, their families, and their future. Their courage also protects peace in the Republic of Moldova, for which we are deeply grateful,” she said.
Upon her arrival in Kyiv, Sandu emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations. She noted that her discussions with President Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian officials would focus on security, energy, trade, infrastructure, and European integration.
During her visit, Sandu is expected to meet with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The Moldovan leader reiterated her commitment to maintaining Moldova as a reliable neighbor and partner to Ukraine.
Earlier, Nikolai Patrushev, an adviser to Vladimir Putin, accused Moldova’s government of causing the country’s energy crisis and warned that its “anti-Russian policy” could lead to Moldova “becoming part of another state or ceasing to exist altogether.” Moldova’s Foreign Ministry condemned the remarks as interference in its internal affairs, reaffirming the country’s commitment to democracy and European integration.
