Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean presented a clear roadmap for the reintegration of Transnistria, emphasizing that the region must eventually come under the control of the Moldovan government. According to Recean, the process must begin with the withdrawal of Russian troops, who have been stationed in the region for years.

During a crisis briefing in Chisinau, Recean outlined the government’s stance on the matter. “Our goal is the reintegration of the country, which must start with Russia withdrawing its troops. This will allow us to properly administer the region,” he stated. “We seek a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and peaceful resolution begins with the withdrawal of military forces.”

As part of the reintegration plan, Recean proposed that Russian military personnel be replaced with international peacekeepers. He noted that following the deployment of peacekeepers, the Moldovan government would resume providing essential services to the region.

“The next step in the reintegration process is the introduction of an international peacekeeping contingent. After that, we, the constitutional authorities of the country, will begin providing services,” said the Prime Minister.

Until these steps can be implemented, Chisinau will continue its “remote” reintegration efforts, allowing Transnistrians to access services and opportunities available to the rest of Moldova.

Recean highlighted the importance of integrating Transnistrians into the country’s social services, business environment, and market. This would include facilitating the export of goods to the European Union, similar to other Moldovan citizens.

“We are making every effort, even under conditions where we cannot ensure the functioning of law enforcement or administration in the region,” Recean explained.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s ultimate aim: “Our goal is full and peaceful reintegration of Transnistria.” The withdrawal of Russian troops, he stressed, remains the crucial first step in achieving this objective.

Earlier, the Moldovan government linked the energy crisis in Transnistria to a broader Russian strategy of manipulation and disinformation. Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă stated that the energy situation worsened after Gazprom halted gas deliveries, and blamed the Transnistrian authorities' refusal to cooperate.
