Months-Long Drone Hunt Ends With Explosive Strike on Russian Uragan-1 Launcher, Video

Ukrainian forces have tracked down and destroyed a Russian BM-27 Uragan-1 multiple-launch rocket system positioned in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region, according to Lasar’s Group of Ukraine’s National Guard on February 10.
The strike was carried out within the operational zone of the 17th Army Corps in coordination with the 422nd Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion and the 104th Unmanned Systems Center.

Unit officials said the launcher had been used to fire on civilian infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhia area. Drone crews from Lasar’s Group reportedly hunted the system for several months, tracking its movement patterns and firing routes before launching the final operation.
Once the target was located, Ukrainian forces conducted a coordinated strike using heavy bomber drones and FPV drones, supported by aerial reconnaissance teams. After the first hits immobilized the launcher, additional units engaged the position, triggering a detonation that destroyed the system.

According to Militarnyi, Russia first showcased the updated 9K57 launcher mounted on the BAZ-69092 chassis in 2021. Serial modernization of legacy BM-27 Uragan systems—replacing the older ZIL-135LM chassis with the newer BAZ platform—began in 2023, with the upgraded version designated Uragan-1.
Despite the chassis change, the launcher retains its original 220-mm caliber and remains designed to strike area targets rather than precision points.
Earlier, Ukrainian drone operators tracked down and struck concealed Russian armored vehicles, destroying an infantry fighting vehicle hidden inside a hangar and damaging a separate tank.
