More Than 300 Cars From UK Donated to Ukraine Under ULEZ Scrappage Scheme
More than 200 cars that do not meet the harmful emissions requirements established by the London authorities have already been sent to Ukraine, and more than a 100 are being prepared for shipment.
This was reported on Friday, August 16, by the London utility company Transport for London (TfL).
The vehicles will be dedicated solely to supporting humanitarian and medical aid efforts in Ukraine as it faces the full-scale Russian invasion that began in February of 2022.
The ULEZ vehicle scrappage scheme, launched in London in January 2023, gives drivers grants to buy an environmentally friendly vehicle if they scrap their own vehicle.
Drivers of the most polluting vehicles are required to pay a £12.50 daily charge under ULEZ, which was extended to outer London last year despite considerable opposition.
In March, drivers participating in the scheme were offered the option to receive payment for sending their vehicle to Ukraine instead of having it scrapped, following advocacy efforts that led the government and London Mayor Sadiq Khan to support the initiative.
