NASAMS Air Defense System Funded by Canada Arrives in Ukraine Soon
Canada's Ministry of Defense confirmed the delivery of a NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine, stating it is already stationed in Poland.
This was reported by a Ukrinform correspondent, citing Canada's Minister of Defense, Bill Blair.
"We worked closely with the Americans and Raytheon, the manufacturer, to assemble and deliver this system. It is currently in Poland and is expected to be transported across the border soon," Blair stated.
The Minister noted that Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, had previously held a phone conversation with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on November 4, informing him about the soon-to-be-delivered NASAMS system.
Canada initially announced its decision to supply Ukraine with NASAMS in January 2023. The arrangement stipulated that Canada would fund the complete cost of the air defense system, estimated at over $300 million, while the United States would handle the direct contract and delivery to Ukraine.
On November 21, the Ukrainian Air Forces reported that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on the city of Dnipro, Ukraine, for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.
