NATO Chief: Russian Casualties Reach 700,000 as War’s Total Surpasses One Million
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused over one million casualties, including those killed and wounded, since February 2022. He made this statement during a discussion at Carnegie Europe in Brussels on December 12.
“The situation on the frontlines is changing slowly and at a very high cost for the Russians. They have already suffered 700,000 casualties, including killed and wounded. This month is a record-breaking one in terms of Russian losses,” Rutte noted.
He emphasized that Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s aggression against Ukraine follows a well-established pattern but pointed out that NATO allies were initially slow to respond effectively.
“Every week, there are over 10,000 killed or wounded on all sides in Ukraine. Over one million casualties since February 2022. Putin is trying to wipe Ukraine off the map,” Rutte said.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 43,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
