Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has joined an investment initiative focused on strengthening Ukraine’s defense technology sector, marking a high-profile entry by a major US entrepreneur into the country’s wartime innovation ecosystem.

Hastings’ involvement was later confirmed in an official report by the UA1 investment fund, which identified him as a key partner in its latest funding round.
Known for backing education and cutting-edge innovation, Hastings is now directing resources toward advancing Ukraine’s defense capabilities through high-tech development.
The UA1 fund is currently finalizing its first major fundraising round, aiming to secure up to $50 million by the end of April 2026. The majority of investors involved are seasoned US venture capitalists and Silicon Valley figures, many of whom see strong growth potential in Ukraine’s rapidly evolving security and defense sector.

The fund’s mission is to identify and finance technologies that can be quickly deployed on the battlefield to deliver a tactical edge. Priority areas include artificial intelligence, electronic warfare systems, unmanned platforms, robotic systems, and cybersecurity solutions.
UA1 was founded by William McNulty, a US Marine Corps veteran who began supporting Ukraine early in the full-scale Russian invasion. His initial investments in defense technology in 2024 eventually evolved into a structured investment platform focused on scaling battlefield-ready innovation.
Ukraine is also helping the US to enhance its drone tech. Earlier, Ukrainian drone manufacturer General Chereshnya and US-based Wilcox Industries agreed to establish a joint venture in the United States to produce FPV and interceptor drones.
The partnership will focus on launching localized production in the US, with priority given to supplying the American defense market and fulfilling Pentagon contracts, while also considering exports to other countries.
General Chereshnya said the cooperation will combine Ukrainian battlefield experience with US engineering capabilities.
