Nordic-Baltic Eight Pledges €44 Million for Generators and Solar Panels for Ukraine
The foreign ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries signed an aid package worth €44 million to support Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, reported Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard during a joint press briefing with NB8 foreign ministers in Odesa, Ukraine on October 16.
The funds will be allocated for the purchase of generators and solar panels.
“We signed a €44 million package to help close the gap in Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. We, your Nordic-Baltic partners, will continue to support you. We will also strengthen air defense and boost your economy,” said Malmer Stenergard.
She added that Sweden contributed €28 million to the package, and since the start of the war, the country has provided Ukraine with €5 billion in total support.
“We want to see Ukraine as a member of the EU. We want a just peace, and that peace is impossible without Ukraine,” Stenergard concluded.
Earlier, Slovakia pledged Ukraine with €500,000 to resolve energy issues amid Russia’s waves of attacks on energy infrastructure.
