Slovakia Pledges €500,000 to Support Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

Slovakia will provide Ukraine with €500,000 to resolve energy issues amid Russia’s waves of attacks on energy infrastructure.

This was announced on October 7 during the meeting of Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, with his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanár during the round of joint consultations of the governments of Ukraine and the Slovak Republic under the chairmanship of Prime Ministers Denys Shmyhal and Robert Fico.

During the meeting the parties discussed key issues of the Ukrainian-Slovak agenda, in particular further support for Ukraine in the face of Russian armed aggression, Slovakia's participation in the implementation of Ukraine’s Peace Formula and preparations for the second Global Peace Summit.

Sybiha expressed gratitude to the Slovak side for the decision to allocate €500,000 for the energy needs and restoration of the energy infrastructure of Ukraine within the framework of the Bilateral Cooperation Plan in the Development of Slovakia. With these funds, it is planned to purchase energy equipment from one of the Slovak companies with its subsequent transfer to Ukraine.

"We want Ukraine to survive the winter with dignity. We are also ready to provide electricity if necessary," said Fico.

With Russia's deliberate and consistent targeting of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the country is suffering from an unprecedented energy crisis. Next winter is expected to challenge the Ukrainian people in a manner not witnessed in Europe since World War II.
