Russian Shelling Pushes Ukraine's Occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant to Brink of Blackout
On October 1, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) once again got on the verge of a blackout due to Russia shelling the power lines through which the ZNPP receives power.
This was reported by Energoatom .
As a result of the Russian attack on the main substation, one of the power lines of the occupied ZNPP was cut off.
“Another act of Russian terrorism created a threat of an accident at the ZNPP. We demand immediate implementation of the IAEA resolution and the return of the occupied nuclear power plant under Ukrainian control. Safe operation of the ZNPP is possible only under the control of Ukraine," said Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
Ukraine’s energy workers are working on eliminating the consequences of Russia’s attack in order to restore full power to the occupied nuclear power plant as soon as possible.
Since March 4, 2022, the ZNPP has been under Russian occupation. During this time, Russian forces have repeatedly violated nuclear safety principles by preventing qualified personnel from working and cutting off power lines from the Ukrainian energy system.
