North Korea Slams US Denuclearization Push, Labels It a “Provocation”

North Korea has firmly rejected the United States' call to abandon nuclear weaponary, according to a statement by the Permanent Mission of the DPRK to the UN and international organizations in Vienna, quoted by the central state news agency KCNA, which is the main information channel of the North Korean regime on September 15.
North Korea strongly criticized the United States following a recent session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.
The statement accused Washington of a “grave political provocation” by calling the DPRK’s nuclear program illegal and repeatedly advocating for denuclearization.
The mission said the US was interfering in North Korea’s internal affairs and undermining its sovereignty, while portraying Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities as essential for “defending its security” and “maintaining a balance of power globally.”
The statement also warned the IAEA against questioning North Korea’s nuclear rights, calling the agency’s actions a “loss of independence and impartiality.”
North Korea further criticized the US for what it described as reckless nuclear proliferation, including extended deterrence arrangements, nuclear sharing with non-nuclear states, and technology transfers, arguing that Washington itself “poses the greatest threat to global peace and security.”
The statement concluded that the DPRK’s position as a nuclear state is “irreversible” and reaffirmed Pyongyang’s commitment to maintain its nuclear deterrent.
Previously, it was reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had announced that Pyongyang would introduce a new defense strategy focused on the parallel development of nuclear capabilities and conventional armed forces.
