North Korea successfully tested its latest air defense missile system, confirming its reliability, rapid response time, and combat capabilities, state-run North Korean media agency KCNA reported on March 21.

The system has already entered mass production, the agency added.

The weapon in question is believed to be the Pyoljji-1-2, which analysts suggest could be comparable to advanced Russian or American air defense and missile interception systems, such as the S-400.

The new system is expected to replace North Korea’s aging Soviet-era air defenses.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who personally oversaw the test, praised the developers and manufacturers for their role in strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

“The test launch confirmed the overall advantages of our new air defense system, including its rapid deployment and high reliability,” KCNA reported.

Kim expressed his satisfaction, stating that North Korea’s military will soon be equipped with another key defensive weapon system with “commendable combat characteristics.”

Earlier, reports emerged that North Korea has allegedly transformed a former luxury residence into a concealed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch site—masquerading as a golf course.
