North Korea's Kim Jong Un Orders Mass Production of Suicide Drones
North Korea has conducted tests of suicide drones, with leader Kim Jong Un ordering their mass production, Reuters reports.
"[Kim] underscored the need to build a serial production system as early as possible and go into full-scale mass production," state news agency KCNA said.
Kim stated that global competition in the military use of drones is intensifying and that military authorities are likely to recognize their effectiveness in conflicts of various scales.
"Such objective change urgently calls for updating many parts of military theory, practice and education," Kim stated.
Photos released by KCNA depicted a drone precisely targeting what appeared to be a BMW sedan. According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, experts suggest North Korea might be signaling its capability to use suicide drones for potential assassinations of South Korean officials.
On June 19, Vladimir Putin announced that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation have signed an agreement for a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” which includes provisions for mutual assistance in the event of aggression against either party.
North Korea has deployed its troops to Russia, which is now participating in its war against Ukraine. According to estimates from Ukrainian Intelligence on October 24, the number of North Korean military personnel transferred to Russia is currently around 12,000, including 500 officers, among them 3 generals from Pyongyang.
At the end of August, North Korea unveiled its own attack drones for the first time, showcasing test footage of these attack drones that resemble Israel’s Harop and Hero models.
