Norway Grants Ukraine a License to Make 155-mm Artillery Shells, Funds Process
Norway has granted Ukraine a license to manufacture 155-mm artillery shells and has agreed to finance the production process. The agreement between the Norwegian company Nammo and a Ukrainian defense firm aims to establish licensed production of these munitions in Ukraine.
According to the Norwegian government, this decision addresses Ukraine’s need for artillery ammunition amid the ongoing conflict. Currently, Norway supplies munitions from its own stockpiles and directly from industry sources, but the new initiative is expected to expedite the delivery of artillery shells to Ukrainian forces.
Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram highlighted that the transfer of technology and expertise from Nammo will enable Ukrainian forces to receive ammunition more quickly. Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzaeg emphasized that this technology transfer was made possible through support from the Norwegian government.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that supporting Ukraine and collaborating with Ukrainian defense industry is of strategic importance for ensuring the security of both nations.
In March of this year, the Norwegian government opened the application process for defense companies to apply for licenses to transfer technology to Ukraine. Nammo applied and received the necessary license from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
