Norway's total support for Ukraine in 2026 will amount to nearly $8 billion, representing about 20% of the support Ukraine is expected to receive this year, the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, announced during the meeting with press on February 25.

Støre emphasized that since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, Norway has evolved from donating from its stockpiles to becoming a significant partner in Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

“We are today an important supporter of what you need the most in defense,” he said, highlighting Norway’s support for Ukraine’s drone production, long-range artillery, and maritime defense, noting that Norway is a maritime nation.

In addition to military support, Støre discussed the importance of Ukraine's growing defense industry, noting that the country’s development, based on field experience, is highly relevant for its international partners. As part of the strengthened cooperation, the Prime Minister revealed that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had agreed to establish a strategic partnership that will further develop this collaboration.

Støre also addressed the damage to Ukraine's energy infrastructure, caused by Russian missile attacks, particularly on gas supply systems.

“We use gas to provide gas to Ukrainian households in the industry. And since 2022, more than $1.7 billion has been provided to investment in repairing and decentralizing the energy sector, as well as energy efficiency and nuclear safety,” the Prime Minister added.

He also reaffirmed Norway’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts and its ongoing commitment to helping Ukraine achieve peace, democracy, and sovereignty.

“Our message is that there can be no peace for Ukraine without Ukraine at the table, making free decisions,” Støre emphasized.

Earlier, Norway provided Ukraine with a substantial shipment of missiles for the NASAMS air defense systems, further strengthening the country's defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
