“Air defense is a priority for Norwegian military support to Ukraine. Through the Nansen programme, NOK 85 billion has been set aside for civil and military support to Ukraine in 2026. We will continue to support Ukraine in the fight they are facing,” stated Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also noted that Russia has been launching targeted drone and missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leading to power and heating shortages during the harsh winter months.
NASAMS air defense systems have been provided to Ukraine by several countries, including the United States, Canada, Lithuania, and Norway. The system has proven to be highly effective in countering Russian missile threats, according to the statement.

“Through cooperation with the United States and others, Norway has quickly delivered air defense missiles to Ukraine at a critical stage so that the NASAMS system can continue to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly air strikes,” said Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
In a further step to strengthen defense cooperation, Norway is now working to integrate Ukrainian-made interceptors and effectors into the NASAMS air defense system. This move is part of a broader defense-industrial partnership with Kyiv.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide confirmed in Kyiv that Oslo is collaborating with Ukraine to adapt locally produced weapons for use within the NASAMS system. The initiative aims to alleviate pressure on limited stocks of expensive Western missiles.

As noted by Army Recognition, this initiative is part of a wider effort among NATO partners to find more scalable and cost-effective air defense solutions, especially as Russia continues its high-frequency missile and drone attacks.
Earlier, it was reported that Norway's military has started informing thousands of citizens that their property could be seized in the event of a war, a measure the armed forces describe as part of broader preparations for a potential national security emergency.
Around 13,500 Norwegians will receive official notifications advising them that their homes, vehicles, boats, and certain machinery could be requisitioned by the military if a conflict arises.
