Norway has committed approximately €417 million for the purchase of artillery ammunition to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

In a statement released on April 7 by the Norwegian government, this funding includes 4 billion kroner (€334 million) allocated to a Czech initiative aimed at procuring artillery shells from around the world, a commitment Norway also made in 2024.

Additionally, €83 million (1 billion kroner) will be provided to the European Peace Fund, which is used to finance military assistance to Ukraine, including artillery ammunition.

“Artillery shells are vital for Ukraine’s liberation struggle against the Russian occupiers. Therefore, it is important for Norway to contribute to replenishing ammunition stocks in Ukraine,” stated Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Støre emphasized Norway’s strengthened cooperation with the EU in supporting Ukraine, particularly in supplying artillery shells. “Europe must take greater responsibility for supporting Ukraine in its fight for freedom,” Støre said.

Earlier this year, on the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Støre announced that Norway would allocate €3.5 billion in 2025 to support Ukraine, including €1 billion for humanitarian aid, €300 million for energy needs, and €4 million in financial guarantees.

The remaining funds would be directed toward supporting Ukrainian industry.

In March, he revealed plans to more than double Norway’s total aid to Ukraine for 2025, bringing it to nearly €7.5 billion.

Earlier, Germany’s Interior Ministry unveiled plans to bolster civil preparedness education for schoolchildren, as part of a broader strategy to address potential crises, including the possibility of armed conflict with Russia.
