Oleh Doroshchuk Wins Ukraine’s First Men’s High Jump Gold at Indoor Worlds

Ukrainian high jumper Oleh Doroshchuk won a historic gold medal in the men’s high jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń after clearing 2.30 meters, according to Suspilne Sport on March 21.
Doroshchuk captured his first career medal at the indoor worlds in a final featuring 12 athletes.
The Ukrainian entered the competition as a top contender after previous top-five finishes at the tournament and moved into control of the event when he cleared 2.30 meters on his first attempt.

Only Mexico’s Erick Portillo matched that height, while Raymond Richards of Jamaica and South Korea’s Woo Sang-hyeok finished with 2.26 meters.
The gold was decided at 2.33 meters, a height no athlete managed, with Doroshchuk taking the title on countback after using fewer attempts.
The victory was a breakthrough moment for Ukraine in the discipline. Suspilne Sport reported that it was Ukraine’s first medal in the men’s high jump at the World Indoor Championships in 12 years and the country’s first-ever gold in the event.

Ukraine’s success in the discipline also extended to the women’s event at the same championships.
The result also added to a strong Ukrainian showing at the 2026 indoor worlds. Doroshchuk’s title was Ukraine’s second gold and third medal of the championships, after Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold and Yuliia Levchenko took silver in the women’s high jump.
Doroshchuk is now the reigning indoor world and European champion after also winning his first European indoor gold in 2025, further underlining his rise as one of Ukraine’s leading high jumpers.
Ukraine’s women delivered a landmark result in Nanjing, where Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 1.95 meters for world indoor gold and Yuliia Levchenko followed for silver.
The one-two finish gave Ukraine a rare double podium in the event and reinforced Mahuchikh’s status as the country’s leading high jump star on the global stage.
