One Hit, Four Intercepted: Ukraine’s Flamingo Missile Shows Rapid Progress

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that one of five recently launched Ukrainian Flamingo missiles successfully struck a target inside enemy-controlled territory, while the remaining four were intercepted by Russian air defenses, Zelenskyy stated during a briefing with journalists on December 24.
“The hit rate of the Flamingoes has improved recently. There was a recent use: five missiles were launched – one destroyed the target, and four were intercepted by Russian air defense. All of this is getting stronger in practice – month by month,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine is continuing to refine its domestic missile capabilities through repeated combat use and technical upgrades.
Zelenskyy also commented on another missile system, Ruta, which is produced in cooperation with foreign partners. According to him, the missile has already demonstrated successful battlefield use, but remains available in limited numbers.
“Ruta, which we are developing together with foreign partners, is a good missile; we have had a successful use of it, but there are still too few of them. And the issues are mostly technical – regarding engines. Money and engines – that is what is needed,” the President said.

In addition, Zelenskyy noted significant improvements in the performance of Ukraine’s Neptune missiles, which have previously been used to strike high-value targets.
“The hit rate of the Neptunes has become very strong – it was good, and it has become very good,” he said.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine had begun using its domestically built Sapsan ballistic missile in combat against Russia.
