Only Trump Can Bring Putin and Zelenskyy to Negotiating Table, VP Vance Says

According to Fox News, US Vice President JD Vance said Washington is working to coordinate a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

He added that a potential trilateral meeting involving US President Donald Trump is also under consideration.

Vance noted that the US is “in the process of determining the schedule” for such talks and stressed that he does not see a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy without Trump’s participation as productive. “The only way to establish peace is to sit down at the negotiating table and talk,” he said.

He stated that the Trump administration intends to maintain an open dialogue with Kyiv but aims for a settlement based on the current front line.

Vance also reiterated that the US has ended what he called “funding of the Ukraine war,” saying that American taxpayers are “tired” of covering the costs of the war and that European countries should take on a greater share of assistance to Ukraine.

According to Vance, the US has told its European allies that the war is “in your part of the world” and that they should be prepared to play a more direct and substantial role in financing Ukraine’s defense. He added that while Washington is scaling back direct funding, the US remains open to selling weapons to European partners.

“We want to achieve a peaceful resolution to this conflict,” Vance said.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not agree to any land-for-peace arrangements with Russia, stressing that the Constitution clearly defines the country’s territorial integrity and that no agreements made without Ukraine’s participation would lead to lasting peace.
