Putin–Trump Alaska Summit Set for August 15, With Moscow Pushing for Talks on Home Turf

US President Donald Trump will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska, according to an announcement Trump made on Truth Social. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed the meeting, as reported by Russian state media.

Trump said details of the planned talks would be provided later. Ushakov noted that US and Russian economic interests intersect in Alaska and the Arctic.

He added that discussions are expected to focus on potential options for a “long-term settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.” According to him, Moscow anticipates that the next meeting between the two leaders will take place in Russia.

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy welcomed the upcoming talks, describing his state as a strategic location for diplomacy, trade, and security.

Writing on social media platform X, he highlighted Alaska’s role in national defense, energy security, and Arctic leadership, stating it was logical for high-level discussions to be held there.

The August 15 meeting will be the first publicly announced bilateral engagement between Trump and Putin since Trump’s return to the presidency.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not cede any territory to Russia, stressing that the Constitution already defines the country’s borders and “no one will step back from this.”

He warned that agreements made without Ukraine or against its interests would be “dead decisions” and reaffirmed readiness to work with President Trump and partners toward a lasting peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty.
