A senior White House official has confirmed that a summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is tentatively scheduled for the end of next week, according to a report made by Sky News on August 8.

The location for the meeting is reportedly still being discussed, with potential venues including the UAE, Hungary, Switzerland, and Rome, the official said.

Details and logistics surrounding the summit remain fluid, with the exact date still unclear. It is also uncertain whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be involved in the meeting.

The official added that Russia has provided a list of demands for a potential ceasefire, and Washington is currently working to secure agreement from both Ukraine and its European allies.

However, Ukraine has consistently stated it will not concede any territory that Russia has illegally annexed.

Previously, it was reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to a South China Morning Post report.

The conversation took place ahead of an expected summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump. Putin briefed Xi on recent communications with the US, expressing Russia's readiness to maintain close contact with China.

Earlier reports stated that the US and Russian negotiators are working on a draft ceasefire agreement that would effectively formalize Moscow’s control over the territories it currently occupies in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.

Citing sources familiar with the talks, the outlet said the arrangement could include a suspension of hostilities while granting Russia de facto authority over the seized regions, without immediate formal recognition by Kyiv.
